PDF Booklet Maker
Turn a PDF into a booklet ready to print double-sided, fold and staple.
How do you print a PDF as a booklet you can fold and staple?
To print a PDF as a booklet you need to reorder its pages. In a saddle-stitch booklet (stapled along the fold) each sheet carries two pages per side, so the last page sits next to the first and, once the stack is folded in half, everything reads in order. This tool does that imposition for you. It pads the document to a multiple of 4 pages, places two pages per side on a landscape sheet (A4 or Letter, or twice your original page size if you have large paper) and lets you pick a left or right spine. Then you print double-sided, flipping on the short edge, fold and staple. Everything happens in your browser: the PDF is never uploaded, text stays selectable, and it is free, with no signup and no watermark.
How to use PDF Booklet Maker
- Drop your PDF into the upload area or click to choose it. The tool reads it in your browser and tells you how many pages it has, how many sheet sides will be produced and how many sheets of paper you will need.
- Pick the sheet size: Letter landscape (the default), A4 landscape, or automatic, which uses twice your page width so nothing gets shrunk but needs paper twice that size (or printing with “fit” scaling). Set the spine on the left (the default) or on the right for right-to-left reading, as in Arabic, Hebrew or manga.
- For a long document, split the sheets into signatures of 2 to 10 sheets. Each block is folded and stapled on its own, so the spine does not bulge. Check the print order shown in the right-hand panel.
- Click “Create booklet” and download the PDF. Print it double-sided, at actual size, flipping on the short edge; then stack the sheets, fold them in half and staple along the spine.
Common use cases
Programs for a wedding, a concert or a school play
Design the program as an ordinary PDF, page after page, and turn it into a booklet in seconds. Eight or twelve pages give you a center-stapled booklet on two or three sheets, with no guessing at the page order.
Manuals, handouts and course notes
A 20-page manual becomes a five-sheet booklet that fits in a pocket. It is easier to hand out at a workshop or in class than a pile of loose pages stapled at the corner.
Zines, short stories and homemade chapbooks
If you publish a zine or an illustrated story, printing it as a booklet uses half the paper and binds with two staples. Small signatures let you sew several folded bundles together for a thicker book.
Manga and right-to-left books
With the spine on the right, every side is mirrored and the book opens from the correct edge. This is the setting for manga, Eastern comics and Arabic or Hebrew texts.
Menus, catalogs and newsletters for a small business
A café, shop or club can print its menu, catalog or newsletter on the office printer without a print shop. Sensitive PDFs never leave your computer, either.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print a PDF as a double-sided booklet?
Create the booklet here, open the resulting PDF and, in the print dialog, choose double-sided, actual size (100%, not fit to page) and “flip on short edge”. If your printer cannot print on both sides, print the odd sides first, put the stack back in the tray and print the even ones.
How many pages does my PDF need to make a booklet?
Any number works. Each sheet of paper holds 4 pages, so the tool adds blank pages at the end until the total is a multiple of 4: a 13-page document prints as a 16-page one, with three blank pages at the back. If you want to avoid those gaps, adjust the page count first.
What is a signature and when should I use one?
A signature is a group of sheets folded and stitched together. With many pages, one single block gets thick and the inner pages stick out when folded. Splitting it into signatures of 2 to 5 sheets avoids that, and you then join the signatures with glue, thread or a comb binding.
What paper size should I use for a booklet?
For an A5-size booklet, print on A4 landscape; for a half-letter booklet, on Letter landscape. Each page is scaled to fit its half without distortion. The default is Letter, which fits a home or office printer. Automatic mode doubles the width of your original page (a portrait Letter page becomes a tabloid sheet): use it only if you have paper twice the size, are sending the file to a print shop, or print with “fit” scaling, because at actual size half the sheet would be cut off on a Letter or A4 printer.
Does the booklet lose quality or turn the text into an image?
No. Pages are embedded as vector content, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. The scale only changes if the sheet size is smaller than twice your original page.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is processed in your browser with JavaScript and WebAssembly, never leaves your device, and the tool is free, with no signup and no usage limit. If the file is password-protected, remove the password first with /unlock. To put several pages on one flat sheet instead, use /pages-per-sheet; to reorder pages beforehand, /organize; and to number them, /page-numbers.
