Business Days Calculator
Count working days between two dates or add a deadline, with US, Mexico and Spain holidays.
The starting day is not counted: day 1 is the next business day. If your term starts when a notice takes effect, use that date as the starting date.
Pick both dates to count the business days.
How many business days are there between two dates?
To count business days between two dates, pick a start date and an end date: the calculator skips weekends and the public holidays of the country you choose (the United States, Mexico or Spain) and shows how many working days there are, with a breakdown of calendar days, weekend days and the named holidays that fell in the period. It also works in reverse: enter a starting date and a deadline such as 10 business days, and you get the date it falls due. Holidays are computed from rules rather than a lookup table, so it works for any recent year, and you can paste state, regional or local holidays yourself. Everything runs in your browser, no date is uploaded to a server, and it's free with no signup. It's a calculation aid: it doesn't replace the official calendar of whoever sets your deadline.
How to use Business Days Calculator
- Pick a mode: "Count business days" to find how many there are between two dates, or "Add a deadline" to get the date a business-day deadline falls due.
- Choose the dates with each field's calendar picker; in deadline mode, type how many business days to add or subtract.
- Under "Calendar", choose the country for official holidays. If needed, include Holy Thursday and Good Friday (Mexico) or Holy Thursday (Spain), or change the weekly days off.
- Paste state, regional or local holidays and office closures into "Extra holidays", one per line, as 2026-12-24 or 12/24/2026.
- Check the result and the list of holidays in the period, then copy it with one click.
Common use cases
Shipping and payment terms
A vendor promises delivery "within 15 business days" or an invoice is due net 30 business days: add the term to the date you received it and get the exact day, skipping weekends and holidays.
First-pass estimate for legal and agency deadlines
When a deadline is written in business days, get a first estimate of how many are left or what date it falls due. Each authority counts its own way: whether the start day counts, whether a notice takes effect the next day, court recess periods, or August being non-working for court deadlines in some countries. Adjust the start and end checkboxes and always confirm against the official calendar of the court or agency.
Planning time off
Before requesting leave, check how many working days it actually uses: a break with a holiday in the middle costs fewer days than it looks.
Project and payroll schedules
Estimate the working days between two milestones, or when a transfer that takes 5 business days to clear will arrive, counting only the days the bank or the team is open.
Teams across countries
Compare how many business days the same period has in the US, Mexico and Spain to line up deliveries across offices, or work with a different weekend such as Sunday only or Friday and Saturday.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a business day?
By default, Monday to Friday that is not a holiday. The calculator skips Saturdays, Sundays and the holidays of the country you pick plus any you add. You can change the weekly days off if you work a different work week. For the plain difference in calendar days, years and months, or an exact age, use the date calculator (/en/date); Docuboxer's business-days guide explains how calendar days, business days and legal-deadline days differ.
Which US federal holidays are included?
All 11 holidays in 5 U.S.C. § 6103: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Juneteenth is counted from 2021, when it became a federal holiday.
What if a federal holiday falls on a weekend?
A holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before, and one on a Sunday the Monday after. The calculator applies this and shows the actual date next to the observed one. For example, July 4, 2026 is a Saturday, so the day off is Friday, July 3. When January 1 falls on a Saturday, the observed day is December 31 of the previous year.
Does it include state or local holidays?
No. State, city and school-district holidays vary and aren't included. Add them under "Extra holidays", one per line, and they are subtracted just like the official ones.
Can I use it for Mexico and Spain?
Yes. Mexico uses the mandatory days off in article 74 of the Federal Labor Law, with an option for Holy Thursday and Good Friday, which many courts treat as non-working but the law doesn't require: check the official calendar. Spain uses the national holidays, with an option for Holy Thursday; some regions move Sunday holidays to Monday, and those moves aren't included. Regional and local holidays in either country must be added by hand.
Does the start day count when I add a deadline?
No. When adding business days, the starting date is not counted: day 1 is the next business day. If your term starts when a notice takes effect, use that date as the starting date, and confirm the rule with the authority. When counting between two dates, there are checkboxes to include or exclude the start day and the end day.
