How do you convert an image to PNG, JPG or WebP online?

To convert an image to PNG, JPG or WebP, drop the file into Docuboxer's image converter, pick the output format, and download the result — the conversion happens right in your browser in seconds, with nothing uploaded to a server. The tool converts between PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and BMP in either direction, always keeping the original dimensions — for resizing, use the separate image resizer instead. Converting a PNG or WebP with transparency into JPG, a format with no alpha channel, fills the transparent areas with a solid color (white by default, but fully customizable) instead of leaving black or corrupted patches. You can convert several images in one batch and download them all together as a ZIP. It's free, with no signup and no usage limit.

How to use Convert Image to PNG, JPG or WebP

  1. Drag or select one or more images (PNG, JPG, WebP, AVIF, GIF or BMP) into the upload area.
  2. Choose the output format: PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF.
  3. If you're converting to JPG and your image has transparency, set the background color that will fill the transparent areas.
  4. For JPG, WebP and AVIF, adjust the quality slider to balance file size against sharpness.
  5. Download each converted image individually, or grab them all at once as a ZIP if you processed a batch.

Common use cases

Uploading a PNG screenshot to a site that only accepts JPG

Convert screenshots or PNG designs to JPG so they're accepted by forms, online stores, or platforms that reject PNG uploads.

Shrinking a website's image weight with WebP

Convert JPG or PNG photos to WebP to serve lighter images and improve load time and your PageSpeed Insights score. If the file is still too heavy, pair it with the image compressor.

Preparing a transparent logo for a site that requires JPG

When a platform or document only accepts JPG, convert your transparent PNG logo and pick a background color that matches the final destination.

Adopting AVIF for maximum savings in production

Convert images to AVIF, today's most efficient widely-available format, for modern web projects whose stack already supports it.

Standardizing a batch of images downloaded in different formats

Convert a batch of images pulled from different sources — some PNG, some WebP, some BMP — into one consistent format, like all-JPG or all-WebP, before organizing or uploading them to a CMS.

Frequently asked questions

When should I use PNG instead of JPG?

Use PNG for screenshots, logos, icons, or anything with transparency or crisp text, since it compresses without losing quality. JPG works better for photos, where a little loss is an acceptable trade for a much smaller file.

Why does a background color show up when I convert a transparent PNG to JPG?

Because JPG has no alpha channel — it can only store fully opaque pixels. The tool fills any transparent areas with the color you pick (white by default) so the image still looks right in the destination format.

Does converting from PNG to JPG or WebP lose quality?

Converting to JPG, WebP or AVIF with lossy compression can lose a small amount of detail, controlled by the quality slider. Converting to PNG never loses quality, since PNG is a lossless format.

What's the difference between WebP and AVIF?

Both are modern formats more efficient than JPG and PNG. AVIF usually compresses a bit better than WebP at the same visual quality, but WebP has broader support across browsers and older software.

Why don't I see the AVIF (or WebP) option in my browser?

Some browsers — older Safari versions or certain Firefox setups — can't actually encode AVIF or WebP files. The tool detects this automatically and disables that option so you never end up with a broken file.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The whole conversion happens in your browser using an HTML5 canvas. Your images never leave your device, and the tool is free, with no signup and no usage limit.
